We’re enjoying Van life in southern Spain. As I write this blog, there’s a heavy storm and rainfall in southern Spain. An entire village, the white village of Grazalema, is even being evacuated. This is unusual weather for Spain…
We are now safely on the east coast of Spain, but first I’ll write my second blog about the south of Spain!
Nerja Beach

Nerja is great! We park for the night near an amazing beach, there’s a super relaxed atmosphere here. The weather is also great! Leo and I walk from one beautiful beach to the next, a top location!

At the Balcón de Europa, we meet Ewy and we enjoy a delicious, freshly made paella together. The sunset is stunning. We’ve a wonderful time in Nerja!
Ancient Moorish town of Frigiliana
On to a beautiful white village in the mountains: Frigiliana!

The village is near Nerja and a bit touristy. From the parking lot, I have a fantastic view of the gorge. The Moorish part of the town is the most photogenic and forms the heart of Frigiliana. We stroll past shops with local products, art galleries, and numerous terraces. A lovely day out!
Las Cuevas de Nerja

The Nerja Caves were discovered by chance around 1950. The Cathedral of the Paleolithic, as the cave complex is also known, is best known for its gigantic stalactites and stalagmites.
Wow, this is really cool! The caves are beautifully lit, and I’m amazed. How do such large stalactites stay on the ceiling? Stunning! There’s plenty of space and time to explore the caves at your own pace. FYI: a ticket costs €17.50, and parking is about €2.
Roquetas de Mar
I initially park at the beach in Roquetas de Mar, but while walking, I spot a better place for campervans. It’s right next to the Roquetas de Mar Natural Park. It’s fantastic, because I want to go hiking and birdwatching there with Leo. We walk to Playa de Aguadulce and back.

Nature park Gabo de Gata
Hike San José

In San José, we hike in the Gabo de Gata National Park. We’ve been here before and the walk along the cliffs is once again a delight. Leo runs happily back and forth. I have a panoramic view of the sea, see a herd of goats and can walk endlessly. I love it!
Hike El Playazo de Rodalquilar
We’ll stay a little longer in the Gabo de Gata nature park. On the way to El Playazo de Rodalquilar, we stop at the Mirador. Fantastic view!

El Playazo de Rodalquilar is an idyllic beach! Leo and I first walk among the palm trees and then along the beach to Castillo de San Ramón. This 18th-century fort was built to protect against pirates.
Last stop in Southern Spain, Vera Beach!
I’m meeting friends in Vera, at Vera Beach. There’s a very large (free) campervan site here. I think there are over 100 campervans. You’re only allowed to park and stay overnight with your campervan during the winter.

I enjoy socializing with friends and long walks with Leo. Vera offers plenty of nightlife and parties, as well as nature and nice sandy beaches!
We had a wonderful time in Andalusia, the region in southern Spain, and discovered so many new gems! From here, we’ll travel north and drive as much as possible along the east coast of Spain.
Please follow our travels!
