Along the East Coast I, Spain

Mural in Los Alcázares

In the winter of 2025-2026, we will stay in Spain and go in search of the gems along the east coast!

Nature park Elche (Elx)

In Elche, there is a beautiful nature park where you can enjoy nice walks. Stairs, bridges, small rivers, rocks, and more. Leo thinks it’s fantastic and runs like crazy. In the evening, there is an owl right near the camper: hoo hoo hoo 🦉

Villajoyosa

We visit Villajoyosa with its colorful houses. A cheerful little town with bustling terraces, a long promenade, and nice beaches.

Amazing beaches! Dénia, Gandia & Pobla de Farnals

Even more beautiful beaches in Las Rotas near Dénia, where we walk along the coast. It is wonderful here! Just past Dénia, I find a nice spot and park right next to the beach. It is not crowded here in the winter.

In Pobla de Farnals is an official motorhome site where you can stay overnight for 3 days or sometimes even longer (€2 per day). You can also park for free on the grassy area next to it. After all the camper chores, we take a long walk on the beach.

The sea is rough today! High waves and the water is extremely high, so high that the beach has completely disappeared. So today we take a walk on the boulevard.

Benicàssim

In Benicàssim, we walk along the coastal walking/cycling path. I enjoy the beautiful view of the sea, and sometimes we descend to small private beaches.

There is hardly anyone on the large beach in Benicàssim, where you can walk endlessly. We meet Marc from the Netherlands and enjoy great coffees and real Italian pizza, in Spain 🙂
Benicàssim is highly recommended!

Castle Peñíscola

Peñiscola, our last stop in the Valencia region. I have been here before, and the weather was bad then. This time, I would like to see the castle. We are doing that right away today, because bad weather is on the way again.

We are leaving the Valencia region and continuing our journey into the Catalonia region.

El Perelló by the sea

First, I do some laundry in L’Ampolla, a nice little village! I also wash my duvet and the whole camper smells like clean laundry. In El Perelló, a 5-kilometer drive from L’Ampolla, there is a nice camper spot by the sea. I’ve been here before, it is perfect for walking!

Vilafranca del Penedès

And then suddenly it is spring, super sunny! It is quite windy, but it is so lovely in the sun. Leo is dozing comfortably outside.

Vilafranca de Penedès is a medieval city with gorgeous churches. Unexpectedly, we take a beautiful walk along the vineyards. Nothing is growing yet at the moment, it is still winter here.

10 Kilometers from Vilafranca is a great camper spot next to the vineyards in El Pla del Penedès. Several nice walking routes have been marked out here. We walk a 9 km loop – very nice! And then at the very end, a rickety little bridge… uh, should we go or not? I took a chance, and luckily I didn’t fall through!

We are already close to Barcelona and still over 200 km from the French border. I have found a few more fantastic gems in the northeast of Spain. Please read my next blog!
